Forum member 'Wilba' has managed to land his first ever conger while fishing aboard his mate's small-boat 'Nemisis' off Port Talbot. He used a two-hook flapper rig armed with Sakuma 1/0 hooks and mackerel for bait. He also used a 3oz plain lead to allow the bait to roll around in the tide. The result was this 5lb conger on the bottom hook and a small whiting on the top hook.
Wilba says: "I have a funny feeling the conger was attracted by the whiting?"
All About Angling forum member 'Stick' fished a rock ledge near Bull Bay, Anglesey, and landed two conger eels weighing 15lb and a18lb. Both came at slack high water on an evening tide. One of the big eels was taken on whole squid and the other on mackerel head and guts. The biggest 18lb eel is a new personal best for Stick and is also his best fish of the year so far.
