An In-Depth Step-By-Step Guide To Tying Braid To A Mono Leader

Start by tying a two-turn loop in the mono leader, like this

Now twist the mono loop over to form a figure of '8', like this...
            

Now fold the braid over and form a loop, You will need to double over about 8in.

Pass the braided loop through the fig '8' (The end that the tag comes out).

 

Then pass the loop through the second half of the fig '8', like this

At this point you can let go of the mono, ensuring the braid does not uncoil.

 

Now gently pull the mono loop tight and it should look something like this.

 If it does, then you can pull it up as tight as possible, like this...

 

Pull through the braid and lay it alongside like this. Now make 10 or 12 tturns around the mono, so it looks like this...
  

Now pass the end of the braid through the newly formed loop. Pull up tight, while teasing all the coils together as you go.

 

Moisten the mono with a little saliva and pull the knots together. Finally, trim the tag ends with sharp scissors or melt with a naked flame.
