Here we give you a couple of ways to present a sandeel, which can be incorporated into both beach and boat angling.

The first sequence is designed for long range beach fishing and can be used with fresh or frozen eels. While the second is for live eels and is best fished under a float or freelined.

Sandeel - For Long-Range Fishing (Pennell Rig)

First cut the head and the tail off the sandeel..

Place the bottom Pennell hook about 1cm through sandeel.

Now whip the bottom hook to the sandeel with bait elastic. Position the shank of the top Pennell hook at the tail end of the sandeel.
Now whip this hook against the sandeel. The hooks are whipped on the side to prevent the eel from splitting.

Sandeel - Livebait

Pass the hook through the mouth and then out through the gills.

Keep hold of the hooks eye and nick through the belly of the eel.

Be careful not to go too deep into the belly, just pierce into the skin. This bait will withstand a powerful cast on a soft spinning-type rod.
