Tipping Baits

The method of tipping allows for more additional scent, visual attraction and increased movement in the tide. Try it next time you are on the beach or boat.

Small strips of squid provide extra scent a great visual attraction.

Simply hook a small piece onto the hook, like this.

Mackerel adds good visual attraction, but great scent too. Hook once are weave onto hook and secure with bait elestic.
Small chunks of sandeel are great for targeting flatfish. Juast add a small piece to the bait. Leave loose or secure with elastic.
Peeler crab legs can be a deadly tipping bait fro numerous species. Hook them like this. Bait elastic can be added for extra security.

 

Gutting Lugworm

Gutting lugworm is a great way of preserving this wonderful bait. Done correctly it can be freezed for many months and used when your usual fresh bait is in short supply.

You will need a sharp blade to gut the lugworm.

place the point of the blade about 3mm behind the head and cut back.

Using finger and thumb, squeeze the guts out and through the incision. Pull any remaining innards from the worm.
Without guts the worm will still remain alive for several days. Wrap individually in dry newspaper and freeze them in packs of 10.
